Needless to say that change is essential – companies such as Kodak or Nokia lost their leading positions because of their inability to adapt to a new environment and client behavior.

But what differentiates successful from less successful “change managers“? (or better “change leaders“ – see my post from last week on the difference between managers and leaders)?

The key differentiator is that the successful ones typically follow these 8 steps:

  1. Create sense of urgency
  2. Build change team
  3. Come up with simple and compelling vision
  4. Communicate!!!
  5. Create short-term & measurable success stories
  6. Provide new structure facilitating change
  7. Change more to trigger further change
  8. Offer training

In a nutshell: Successful and sustainable companies in the 21st century are data-driven, open for change and have flat hierarchies!

In the coming week I will touch on “Tu-Du“- instead of “To-Do”-lists – stay healthy and confident … 🙂
